I’ll be real with you: when I was younger and super deep into jazz, Sun Ra felt way too abstract for me. As I got older, his whole world started to click, especially the film Space Is the Place (you can watch the entire thing free here), which is weird, wild, and low‑key brilliant once you sit with it a couple times.
The movie is Sun Ra playing this cosmic chess game for our people's future. On one side you’ve got all these forces pushing us toward destruction, on the other you’ve got this higher path he’s trying to open up through music, imagination, and escape. That battle shows up as NASA, pimps, cards for souls, and spaceships, but it also feels like the same inner war a lot of us feel between staying stuck in the mess or choosing something freer and more aligned.
With this design, I wanted to pull it from the Afrofuture into the Afropresent. What would a modern poster for Space Is the Place look like right now? It’s my little love letter to Sun Ra’s mix of Black liberation, myth, and sci‑fi weirdness, while still feeling clean and wearable for everyday life.
And here’s the best part: Sun Ra fans are some of the most interesting people walking this planet. You throw this tee on, go out minding your business, and suddenly you’re in a 20 minute convo with somebody about cosmic jazz, Black futures, or that one scene in the movie they swear is the key to everything. Even if you’re just now getting into him, this shirt is a perfect icebreaker. Sun Ra heads will happily put you on.

Care Tips
Care Tips
- Washing: Machine wash at a low heat setting. Always wash inside-out with similar colors to prevent fading.
- Bleaching: Avoid using bleach; if necessary, opt for non-chlorine bleach only.
- Fabric Softeners: Do not use fabric softeners, as they can affect the print quality and fabric feel.
- Drying: Tumble dry on a low cycle or hang-dry for longer life.
- Ironing: If needed, cool iron inside-out. Avoid ironing directly on prints to preserve their quality.
- Dry Cleaning: Do not dry clean.
With proper care, your garment will remain crispy and unfaded for years!
